Carry Somers

For over two decades Carry Somers has created hat collections which unite tradition, luxury and sustainability. As founder of Pachacuti, her designs are shown at London, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks and sold in some of the world’s foremost luxury stores, whilst adhering to the highest social and environmental standards. Pachacuti piloted the WFTO Sustainable Fair Trade Management System, becoming the first company in the world to be Fair Trade Certified in 2009, and then piloted the WFTO Fair Trade Guarantee System 2011 – 2015.

Pachacuti also pioneered the three-year EU Geo Fair Trade Project 2009 – 12, tracing their panama hats back to the GPS coordinates of each weaver’s house, and to the fields where the straw grows, linking traceability data to 60 social, environmental and economic annual indicators. Carry has co-written several books and speaks internationally about fashion, Fair Trade, transparency and Fashion Revolution.

Carry is also founder of Fashion Revolution. Created in response to the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, Fashion Revolution Day is an annual appointment on 24 April to tackle some of the fashion industry’s most pressing issues. It has grown into a worldwide platform in over 60 countries which everyone can use to ask questions, raise standards and make a difference. The fashion industry supply chain is fractured and producers have become faceless. Fashion Revolution uses the power of fashion to inspire change and reconnect the broken links in the supply chain.
