How do you feel you have developed since your first year?

My presentation skills have come on in leaps and bounds during my course as we are assessed on this in each year, it is vital to have good presentation skills as it is something that you are expected to be able to do confidently in industry.

The course really develops your analytical skills too as you begin to research new areas such as product development and logistics.

For example, you learn to analysis supply chain effectiveness and the advantages and disadvantages from sourcing from say the Far East as opposed to Turkey.  These are real life scenarios which you may have to deal with when working as a Buyer!

Where did you live in your first year?

I lived in Piccadilly Point Halls in my 1st year, the city centre location meant that I got to know Manchester really well, very quickly so I felt really safe and at home within a few weeks. I was close the societies I joined and the dance studios that I went to as a hobby. It was also nice to live with students from lots of other courses, Universities and Colleges. 

What is the best thing about studying in Manchester?

The best thing about being a student in Manchester is that the city is very geared towards students and creative young professionals. Being a student here is seen as a real positive therefore companies are always prepared to give you amazing work experience and a chance whilst you are studying.

The whole city has a real buzz about it and there is so much to do and such a diverse range of interesting people that you can never get tired of it.  It is an amazing place to do your degree, especially doing a Fashion course at MMU as you are instantly recognised for being at a leading institution.

What has been your favourite part of your course?

The course content is very thorough and you will find that by the final year you have developed a vast knowledge. The expertise of the staff and the manner in which you are assessed ensure that you are learning from industry experts and this is reinforced by business projects, trips to factories and trade shows!

What are your plans for after graduation?

After graduation I am doing a Secondary PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) as I want to go into teaching. Being a Student Representative and Ambassador at the University has given me the experience I needed to get a place on the PGCE course and with all the industry based experience I gained from my course at MMU, I was offered a place at my first choice institution!
