Short Courses for Professionals

The Open Professional Programme has been designed to meet the demands of employers and employees. It has been developed for a bite-sized approach to teaching, alongside work-based learning. Individuals on industry focussed short courses can accrue credit over time. The programme provides a new progression route for learners employed in the fashion and clothing industry.

You will be offered a pick and mix portfolio of units designed to benefit your personal and professional advancement. You will be able to accrue credits over time to gain a formal University qualification

Courses are available to be taken at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.

Awards

The value of each of our pilot units is 5 credits at level 5. Although we plan to introduce units of 10 or 20 credits in appropriate subject areas.

You will be able to accrue credits at a pace that is suitable to yourself and your employer. On accruing the relevant combinations of credits you would be eligible for the following awards:

University Certificate
60 credits at Level 4

CertHE in Fashion Technology and Business
120 credits at Level 4

University Diploma
60 credits at Level 5

University Foundation Degree
120 credits at Level 4 plus 120 credits at Level 5

Learning and teaching activities

These are practice based units, where learning and teaching is facilitated by a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, technical demonstrations and self directed study.

Prior to attending one of our courses you will be expected to have completed a preparatory exercise (approximately 8 hours) to enable you to make full use of your time on academic premises.

Assessment

The units are assessed through the submission of one piece of coursework taking approximately 18 hours to research and complete. Each assessment will have a focus on the academic requirements of the award and reflect the specific product creation and production needs of a named company or brand.

 

Awards

The value of each of our pilot units is 20 credits at level 7, these units are broken dopwn into 4 modules of 5 credits each.

You will be able to accrue credits at a pace that is suitable to yourself and your employer. On accruing the relevant combinations of credits you would be eligible for the following awards:

Postgraduate Certificate
60 credits at Level 7

Postgraduate Diploma
120 credits at Level 7

Masters Degree (MSc)
180 credits at Level 7

 

Learning and teaching activities

These are practice based units, where learning and teaching is facilitated by a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory work, workshops and independent study.

The units are assessed through the submission of one piece of coursework taking approximately 26 hours to research and complete. Each assessment will have a focus on the academic requirements of the award and reflect the specific product creation and production needs of a named company or brand.
